About this ebook

Retired Navy SEAL Travis Kincaid is Obsessed…

For two years, Prairie’s Chief of Police hasn’t been able to get single mom Elaine Ryder out of his head. Her gentle strength, shy smile, and luscious curves soothe the ruthless savage that still lurks inside of him.

But he knows better than anyone that the people he’s sworn to protect – here at home and downrange, often end up in the ground. As much as he’d like to bring Elaine into his bed and into his heart, she’s safest at a distance. Until protecting her from a dirty cop with political ambition becomes his number one mission, and the closer he can keep Elaine, the better.

He only wants her…

Travis Kincaid is too good to be true. Deep down, Elaine knows she’s not nice-guy material. The Prince Charmings of the world never want women from the wrong side of the track, women with… history.

Yet with the brooding lawman who holds secrets behind his eyes watching her every move, helping her at every turn, caring for her son like a real father, making her feel safe, desirable, and wanted – she can’t help but fall head over heels for the warrior whose internal scars match her own.

When Elaine’s shady past becomes the weapon of a power-thirsty madman, will Travis abandon her like all the rest or will her knight in shining armor come riding to her rescue once and for all?

A Hero’s Honor: Resolution Ranch (Flint Hills Military Heroes Book 1) by Tessa Layne This is Travis Kincaid and Elaine Ryder’s Story. Travis and Elaine paths cross and the chemistry is hot between them. They try to ignore this chemistry since they are both dealing with some difficult issues. Travis and Elaine are perfect for each other if they will just give themselves a chance. This is an emotional and heartwarming story. I loved the cacters and enjoyed Elaine’s son’s character too. FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is book 1 of Ms Layne’s new spinoff series titled Military Heroes of the Flint Hills. I had not read any other books by this author and have to say that I truly enjoyed this story. I do have a caveat. Though it is considered a stand alone, the assumption is made that the reader has read books in her series the Cowboys of the Flint Hills. References are made about a tornado that had occurred in those books, which have an impact on the new series. Also characters from that series are prominent in this new one and it’s assumed that the reader knows them as well of the tornado. As a new reader, I would have appreciated a prologue that at least explained the tornado and some of those characters. All that said, it’s an engaging story filled with well developed characters. It’s a story about second chances in life, in this case, Elaine, an unwed mother who is still paying for the mistakes of her youth, A youth that was not easy . She will do anything to protect her sweet boy. Elaine has worked hard and has found a home and a new beginning in this town. Travis is one of the town’s deputy and has a crush on her. He was a Navy SEAL, and still has nightmares of the last mission . The author creates a heartbreaking, but also heartwarming story with imperfect and very likable characters. But what I liked best, was how she reminds us that we need to do more for those brave men and women that are willing to serve our country and die for our freedom. Upon their return. we need to help them not only to integrate back to civil life, but also with their physical and emotional scars. Kudos to the author for that reminder. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Mixed emotions about this book. Storyline was interesting and charachter interaction was good. I did not like Elaine that much. The secret she kept was over the top considering what Travis was and the run for sheriff. I mean really, what did she think was going to happen. The sex scenes were way too explicit and lengthy. Ugh, didn't need that.
