This was a wonderful story of “Others” that live among the humans but having many secrets they kept to themselves. It’s set in the future with the government keeping much of the past from the current humans giving them just enough information to survive in the changes of the new world. Bailey is human and finds herself on the run from a very abusive relationship. Her ex is hell bent on finishing what he started and Bailey is forever moving to keep one step ahead of him. On the move again she finds she is being followed by an Other…a djinn. If she can just get to the bus station she feels she may be safe until she can get away. There she is rescued from the djinn by another Other…..a vampire named Erick. But with the trouble she has had in her life is Erick someone she can trust? She realizes she is longing to find that bit of safety and for whatever reason she feels like she can have that with Erick. He talks her into coming to Sanctuary which is a place where the Others can live in peace. He assures her that she will be safe there and he will do whatever he can to protect her. They are both drawn to each other and neither want to fight that attraction. But trust remains Bailey’s weakness. Erick does what he can to prove that Bailey can trust him. He knows she has been wounded by someone and now is being pursued by the dangerous djinn. Sanctuary turns out to be a place where Bailey feels safe for the time and is hoping she can stay for a while. Erick wants to claim Bailey and continues his slow seduction. The author does a great job of telling their story. It has a bit of mystery and suspense as Erick fills his role as protector of The House of Lamidae. Bailey will learn things about herself from the seer and one of the sister’s Arlea and she will have to make decisions based on what she learns. The story was very enjoyable and interesting. I enjoyed the characters and how much they played a part in the storyline. It was well written and leaves us with questions for the next book. I read it in one sitting and it kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. The chemistry between Erick and Bailey was very sexy and hot. You couldn’t help but hope they worked things out so they could be together. I have read and enjoyed other books by Krystal Shannan and she did not disappoint with My Viking Vampire. Highly recommend! I gave an honest review for an arc copy of this book.
