It’s Raining Men

Annie Kyle is a 40 year old concierge doctor. She's single, but because her best friend lives in her basement, she doesn't really feel the sting of loneliness that goes with being single. That is until her best friend gets engaged. After a night out where for once she has more than one drink and an interaction with hot younger bartender Dax, she sends out a text to every single male in her phone letting them know she's looking to get married. She wakes up to two interested responses. Annie being a high paid career driven woman in my opinion was great. By all means please let's make it totally the norm that some women just love their jobs and do well at them. But the way Annie was written didnt even seem like a real person. I couldn't connect with her at all because she seemed so one dimensional. And the fact that Dax was 27 to her 40 was harped on so hard I started to feel like the author wanted us to see Annie as an old lady on a walker and Dax fresh from his high school graduation. While they did eventually end up together, even their interactions seemed stiff and odd. And fast. One page they were meeting and a few forward he was leaving because it wasn't working. Mind you one conversation led to this. One very short conversation at that. This is a great story that just fell flat. The two men who Annie entertained for marriage were part of the story but more so just secondary characters without much depth themselves. This wasn't a bad book, it just had so much potential that it seemed to just not meet unfortunately. I loved It’s Raining Men by Julie Hammerle, it is the first book that I have ever read by Julie Hammerle and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an incredible story and I loved reading every moment on every page and could not put it down. She provided her readers with the amazing characters, that I loved, who feel like close friends! Who doesn't love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families and friends, who always support one another, they are all such wonderful characters? Her characters in It’s Raining Men are so believable and charming, they share great chemistry, lots of laughs, and steamy romance. It’s Raining Men delivers all those things that I love most about romantic comedies. I love that Julie Hammerle wrote It’s Raining Men from a single point of view, Annie Kyle’s. I enjoyed seeing everything from her viewpoint. It’s Raining Men is filled with all those things that I have come to love in a romantic comedy love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. It’s Raining Men is the story of Dr. Annie Kyle, a concierge physician. The story begins on the night that Annie’s best friend, Kelly announces her engagement to Mark. Annie did not even realize that Kelly was in a serious relationship with anyone. The plan was for Annie and Kelly to grow old together and spend their golden years on adventures together. With her fortieth birthday approaching, Annie drunk texts on the men in her contact list, looking for someone to enter into a business arrangement and marry her. Two men respond, Rob Casey, her first love and next-door neighbor growing up and Darius Green, a local news reporter, known for this Man on Main Street segments. The bartender, Dax Logan, who that supplied Annie with the drinks and was aware of her plan with the text messages, tells Annie that she should not settle for a relationship that does not include love. I love the interactions and relationships that Annie develops with Rob, Darius, and Dax. My favorite part of the story are the witty chapter subtitles. I also enjoyed the heartwarming conversation that Annie had with her mother. I also loved the friendship between Annie, Yessi, and Kelly, her college friends, they proved to Annie that she could always count on them. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? It’s Raining Men is filled with all those things that I love in a romantic comedy, incredible characters, amazing story, light, poignant and bittersweet moments, and unexpected plot twists. I am glad that in the end that Annie decided that age was just a number, and the changes she made in her life after the death of one of her favorite patients. Julie Hammerle did not disappoint in her delivery of those things. I am looking forward to reading other books by Julie Hammerle. I love how she resolved the plot twist; it was truly a heartwarming moment. I really enjoyed reading It’s Raining Men, it was an amazing story and I highly recommend it.

A delightful, fun romantic comedy with loads of quirky characters and even a dog named Joanne. Annie is a concierge doctor in Chicago who is about to turn forty and starts to reassess her life when her best friend and roommate suddenly gets engaged and moves out. During an alcohol-fueled evening, she texts 39 of the men in her contacts and tells them she is ready to settle down and asks if anyone is interested. She’s surprised when two of the men reply that they are interested! One if Robert, the son of her mother’s next-door neighbor and her high school crush, and the other is the flashy news reporter Darius. This is a fun, light fast-paced book, that was enjoyable from the very beginning of the book. Annie is a well-developed character who is easy to root for. Dax, Darius, and Rob are all fun characters, with their own flaws and issues that make for a tough decision for Annie. Annie’s friends are quirky and real and add some additional levity to the story. And Joanne, the dog, is a fun, lighthearted addition to the story. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartwarming, fun romantic comedy. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
